New Plymouth
Yacht Club runs sailing classes for juniors and for seniors.
Junior
Classes
Children
between 9 and 14 years old are taught to sail at the Club. Enrolment is at the
discretion of the sailing master.
Classes are taught in optimist dinghies, and 6 classes are scheduled
over a 3 week period. These classes cover the Yachting New Zealand stage
1 level.
Classes are held adjacent to the clubrooms at Ngamotu beach.
At the end
of sailing classes juniors are encouraged to join junior racing on
Saturday mornings where learners are given help in learning to race a
yacht, and to really enjoy sailing.
Senior
classes
Adults/Youths
from high
school age to any age are taught to sail in the senior classes. Classes are
taken in Sunburst yachts, with 7 classes scheduled over a 3 week period, both in sailing theory, and
practical sailing around and outside the harbour at New Plymouth.
