2008 OK Dinghy
and 420 Nationals
Conditions
for day 1 were light. Racing was delayed until 11.30 until the wind
settled. The first race started with a 6-7 knot NE wind. A siginificant
shift to the NW favoured boats that had worked the left hand side
of the course. Race 2 was sailed in a 6 -7 knot NW wind. The 420's
sailed a third race in a 8-9 knot NW wind.
Three races
were sailed for each class on Saturday. The north westerly wind strength increased from
10 knots to 16-18 knots throughout the afternoon before dropping off to
almost nothing at the completion of the last OK race..
Sunday
races were sailed in 7-9 knot SE winds. The 420's completed 9
races and the OK dinghys 8 races.
A number of 420 crews had 2 OCS's going into the final days
racing.
Monday
saw the 420's complete their final 2 races. Conditions were NE 4-6 knots
for the first race. The second race was shorted at mark 3 after 55
minutes sailing when the wind dropped to under 3 knots. The OK's elected
not to race on the final day due to the light conditions.
